Composing a thesis is like a lonely trek. It takes time and patience, confidence and perseverance to reach the final goal of this arduous journey. I'm convinced, although I feel edgy and frustrated from time to time, that not only will I annihilate this hideous monster called "Thesis" but I will make a great job, for the topic I am studying is of interest and is closely correlated with my daily life. After having wasted three years at that terrible university and taken a lot of boring courses at the unemotional department, I must retaliate against those arrogant and selfish professors and classmates by presenting a perfect thesis and getting the diploma. I'll work very hard to show my strength. Don't give up!

Obesity
My face, body, and breasts are swelling like four ballons after I've kept eating and eating for half a year. Despite many people's warnings, I don't care about my obesity because I would like to lead an easy and happy life. Living happily is my first concern now. If people are disgusted to see my stout body and fat paunch, let them laugh at me. I don't care about their criticism.

Praying for my best
friend
Chi-son

Leaving Chi-son in a classroom of Taiwan Normal University, I rushed to Long-shan Temple to plead with Bodhisattva and Heavenly Mother to bestow a good fortune on this unlucky man, for he ought to deserve something good after his severe trials and intolerable strain. Staggering through the thorny road to achieve his ultimate goal for almost ten years, yet he seldom reaps a good harvest of his herculean effort becasue the merciless results always frustrate him and balk at his premeditated plans. As his good and loyal friend, I do worry about him, but I CAN'T DO ANYTHING. The only thing I can do is to beg for the blessing and mercy of gods. I invoked Bodhisattva and Heavenly Mother and prayed that "good fortune seldom falls on this genial and considerate, compassionate and honest man, so please help him this time and let him get the job." This man of great moral integrity always helps and encourages me whenever I am in low spirits and when my life was at its nadir; thus, he should be rewarded for his efforts.
I wish my best friend can gain whatever he wants, attain his goals, and, most importantly, lead an easy life forever.

The Scarlet Letter

The Scarlet Letter is one of my favorite novels. No matter how many times I read this religious-oriented story, I won't get tired of it; instead, I find my shadow in this story. Whenever I am flipping through the pages of this didactic story, a magical feeling would brew in my heart, a feeling that makes me identify with Hester and Dimmesdale. Like Hester, I did something wrong in the past, but I will keep repenting my sins until I go to my grave. Tormented by a vehement feelings of guilt, I do hope that one day I'll be redeemed and forgiven through my repentance. On the other hand, I am no less timid than Dimmesdale who keeps his secret until his death. Although I am extolled as a model student who does his academic performance excellently and cultivates a positive mental attitude towards life, my secret inflicts suffering on my mind every day. This sort of feeling is like a sharp knife skinning you terribly. When can I lead my life without fear?

A Man Encumbered by his Body

Everyone is easily affected by the senses, and so am I. After I devote myself to Buddhism, my spirit urges me to transcend over the temptation of the senses, yet my body that likes to causes me trouble allows the senses to dominate my mind. The temptations of this world become a path which leads me to get lost and even go astray whenever I can't hold on. The outer world, I know, provides me with a good excuse for my unpardonable sins, but I can't blame it for my fault. I feel very very very guilty and depressed, repentant and scared whenever my body gives in to the senses. Bodhisattva must be grievously disappointed at my debauched and lascivious life, for I pledge that I won't make the same error. Even if I endeavor to repent of my sins now, I won't be redeemed because a man relapsing into his dirty behavior will suffer in the sulfur of the hell forever.
I do hope to discard my bad habit, but its success depends on my patience and perseverance. Next time when my sexuality is going to overwhelm my reason, I must stop to read the Buddha's and Bodhisattva's Teachings, both of which can tranquilize my dirty mind and curb my lustful desire.
I am sinful! May Bodhisattva forgive me!

Congratulations!

While I was killing my time in MSN last night, Ping-yuant informed me of an exciting piece of news--he had finally got his Ph.D degree. Not only did he treat me a wonderful lunch today but he was deeply indebted to me for my aid. I was really elated that he had rode out of the worst storm in his life, and that I had ever helped him translate part of his dissertation into English, through which we established a firm friendship. This self-conscious man kept apologizing for causing me a lot of disturbance, but actually I didn't care about it. Had I not helped him then, I could not have eased my conscience which reminded me of the importance of integrity. I could understand his anxiety, helplessness, and despondency as his paper was rejected for the third time, so I decided to help him no matter how busy I was.

When taking him to see a herbal doctor after the lunch, I was told that during his honeymoon holiday in Japan, he drew lots which implied his benefactor would show up as he confronted many a difficulty. He said, "I'm his benefactor," but instead I think he gave me a good opportunity to do something good. After giving him my best blessing, I went to Lung-shan Temple sharing my happiness with Bodhisattva. I confessed that I was satisfied with what I did becasue it gave me a sense of achievement and tranquility. Through this fantastic experience, I discovered the advantages of boosting one's morale and giving hope to those living in despair.

是日已過,命亦隨減,如少水魚,
斯有何樂?大眾,
當勤精進,
如求頭然,但念無常,慎勿放逸。
Temperance
What? You go into ecstasies again!
Hey..............You're so forgetful! Let me tell you your sad story.
Do you obliterate the nightmarish memories of the past? Don't you know life is fragile and Dead is always approaching you? Do you want to repeat the same mistake and undergo the tremendous emotional problems? Do you want to purge your mind of turmoil and disturbance? Do you forget your confession to Buddha and Bodhisattva when you kneel by the altar crying for help?
Don't forget the past! Whenever your passion overcomes your reason, remember to think about your terrible experiences. Like a phoenix arising from the flaming fire, you are reborn as a new man who has vowed to commit himself to helping this world. Don't forget your oath and mission! If you make the same error again, you will be doomed to suffer in hell.

Today was not my day! I was overwhelmed with fury after teaching C. C. Chen who deliberately locked the pin number of my cell phone. His mischievousness did not seriously irritate me, but I flew into fury as I found somebody used a utility knife to scratch the saddle of my scooter. It cost me nearly 1000 to unlock my cell phone and have a new saddle.
Angry, Angry, Angry......

As I was watching the news about a massive earthquake in Pakistan where the death toll has exceeded 30000, a tumult of vehement feeling suddenly came over me--Life is impermanent. Why do the serious catastrophes always happen to the poverty-stricken people and places? Why are those innocent victims doomed to suffer this upheaval? I have no inkling of the answers to these questions, yet I would donate some money to help them and this is the only thing I can do. Hard as life is, we can alleviate its unbearable burden provided we can sincerely show our pity, love, and compassion to those inflicted by diseases and casualties.
May Buddha and Bodhisattva bless the victims!

I am forced to sit silently cogitating on my thesis every day, though I am not personally enthusiastic about the so-called academy. My classmate, Old Head, has given up his drawn-out thesis and decided to fulfill his military service. Indeed, his courage becomes a great temptation for me, but I will get through this drudgery, no matter how arduous it is. Whenever I feel anxious about the stagnation of my thesis and frustrated by my ill organization, I would remind me of my high school teacher, Sister Wu, to whom my thesis is dedicated; thus, I can't give up!
I hope that, although I have been numb with fear, uncertainty, and anxiety, for the sake of my nightmarish past, Bodhisattva, who saves and pities people in trouble, can bestow his wisdom on me to let me strive toward the ultimate goal.
