As I was watching the news about a massive earthquake in Pakistan where the death toll has exceeded 30000, a tumult of vehement feeling suddenly came over me--Life is impermanent. Why do the serious catastrophes always happen to the poverty-stricken people and places? Why are those innocent victims doomed to suffer this upheaval? I have no inkling of the answers to these questions, yet I would donate some money to help them and this is the only thing I can do. Hard as life is, we can alleviate its unbearable burden provided we can sincerely show our pity, love, and compassion to those inflicted by diseases and casualties.
